FIDO: The Standard Behind Passwordless Authentication

Fast IDentification Online (FIDO) is an open authentication standard that replaces passwords with secure, device-based credentials called passkeys. Instead of remembering complex passwords that can be phished or stolen, users authenticate using cryptographic keys stored directly on their device — or in this case, their access card.

The result? A faster, more secure log-in experience that reduces IT helpdesk tickets from forgotten passwords and eliminates the risk of password-based attacks.

Converged Credentials: Simplifying Deployment and Management

Both the Seos FIDO-enabled card and the MIFARE DESFire EV3 FIDO-enabled card are certified to the latest FIDO2 specification, supporting up to 30 resident keys on the HID Crescendo C4000 platform. This means one card can handle physical access control through your existing infrastructure while simultaneously providing passwordless authentication for FIDO-compliant applications and services like Microsoft Entra.

For organizations already using Seos or DESFire EV3 credentials, these FIDO-enabled versions integrate seamlessly with existing systems. The cards maintain all the security features you expect — AES128 encryption, mutual authentication and support for Secure Identity Object (SIO) data protection — while adding the convenience of passwordless digital access.
